A horrible car crash closed Highway 316 and killed one person in Gwinnett County Sunday afternoon. The driver of the other vehicle, Sabrina Townes, has been arrested for vehicular homicide and is currently in the Gwinnett County Jail.
Townes was treated at a hospital after the seven-car crash that killed 39 year-old Pamela Leake of Lawrenceville and injured many others.
The incident happened on eastbound Georgia 316 underneath the Lawrenceville-Suwanee bridge around 3:00PM. All lanes were blocked while police cleared the wreckage. Two people were trapped in a car and had to be removed by the fire department. One vehicle flipped over several times before landing upright.
Four people were taken to the hospital, where Leake died. Two others were treated and released, and another is still in the hospital. Two others were treated at the scene and released.
Witnesses say that Townes was driving in the emergency lane and that was what caused the multi-vehicle crash.
Townes is waiting transfer to DeKalb County Jail for a warrant in a similar multi-car wreck that killed Lymeng Lim in 2012. In the DeKalb County case she allegedly fled the scene and had not been picked up on the warrant for her arrest since 2012
Charges have not yet been filed in Gwinnett. She will need a top-rated Gwinnett County DUI Lawyer and top-rated DeKalb County DUI Lawyer.
