Does someone arrested need a local lawyer

Posted by Richard Lawson | Feb 23, 2013 | 0 Comments

Is there an advantage in hiring a local lawyer, a lawyer that lives in the community where the arrest  occurred?

I am asked at least once a week whether someone needs to hire the local attorney. There is the assumption that having someone that works with the prosecution and judges on a daily basis has an advantage. This may have been true at some point in the past, but not now.

In the days before 24 hour news, facebook, google plus, and instant messaging, favors were given to the local lawyers.  Today, no judge or prosecutor is going to risk their career giving special favors to anyone because of potential instant exposure.

In our state, judges have already lost their positions because of improprieties on the bench.  In 2012 alone, there were 14 actions taken against Georgia Judges. See: Georgia JQC.

So, as I tell people everyday, it is the skill of your Georgia DUI Lawyer and the facts of your case that make the difference.  The days of the good ole boy network are over.  Attorneys the can only "sell" themselves as an insider or someone who is friends with the Judge or prosecutor have nothing else to sell.  This means they have no skills to offer.  This means this are not real attorneys who fight and win their client's Georgia DUI Cases.

I have successfully handled cases throughout all of North Georgia.  I have handled Atlanta DUI Cases, Fulton County DUI Cases, Carroll County DUI Cases, Cobb County DUI Cases, Clayton County DUI Cases, Cherokee County DUI Cases, Dekalb County DUI Cases, Douglas County DUI Cases, Fayette County Cases, Forsyth County DUI Cases, Gwinnett County DUI Cases, Hall County DUI Cases, Newton County DUI Cases, Paulding County DUI Cases, Rockdale County DUI Cases, and Walton County DUI Cases.

Yet, I live in Dekalb County where, because of socioeconomic reasons, I have handled considerably less DUI cases there than in other Metro Atlanta areas. Most people arrested in Dekalb County end up being served by a public defender because of economic reasons.

As mentioned above, I have handled hundreds of DUI Cases throughout North Georgia, including Catoosa County DUI Cases, Chattooga County DUI Cases, Dade County GA DUI Cases, Dawson County DUI Cases, Fannin County DUI Cases, Gilmer County DUI Cases, Gordon County DUI Cases, Lumpkin County DUI Cases, Murray County DUI Cases, Rabun County DUI Cases , Towns County DUI Cases, Walker County DUI Cases, Union County DUI Cases, and Whitfield County DUI Cases. I have been successfully resolving North Georgia DUI Cases for almost 20 years.

In all the places I work, I have never found that being from out the county to be an disadvantage when juxtaposed with the fact the the Georgia DUI Lawyers in our office exclusively handle DUI cases and are far more skilled than some local attorney who will handle any kind of case that crosses his or her desk.  We only handle DUI cases and are Georgia's DUI Only Law Firm.
