Georgia law enforcement officers arrest thousands of drivers every year for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs (DUI). In Georgia, a DUI is a serious and often frightening offense. Once arrested you are suddenly thrust into a world of police officers, attorneys, courts, judges, and the possibility of facing considerable jail time, not to mention the license suspension, fines, and probation! Â If convicted of DUI, you could come away with a criminal history that will follow you forever.
Do not go down without a fight! You are not required to plead guilty. You have options. A good defense attorney can stop the DUI license suspension, negotiate a favorable plea agreement or even win a case at trial.  All of these are possible outcomes with an experienced DUI trial attorney on your side.
Richard Lawson is one such trial attorney. Â His reviews can be found on AVVO, where he is considered to be top-rated and one of the most reviewed lawyers in Georgia.
Even a first time DUI conviction in Georgia has severe consequences and may include a suspension of your driver's license, jail time, probation, fines and fees that may total upwards of thousands of dollars. Â Don't forget community service, DUI School, alcohol and drug counseling and/or treatment, as well as other measures that the court deems appropriate for the crime.
A second Georgia DUI offense, as well as a third or repeated Georgia DUI offense, carries harsher sentences including greater jail time and probation. Also, your Georgia driver's license suspension or revocation becomes much more severe and lengthy. Driver's license suspensions can last for several years. You may also find yourself faced with the requirement of an ignition interlock system installed on your vehicle before you can reinstate your Georgia driving privilege. Beyond the court sanctions, a DUI can have a detrimental effect on securing employment or educational pursuits.
In short, a DUI conviction is a serious matter, and the consequences are potentially permanent. These are among the important reasons why you should hire a skilled DUI defense attorney immediately following your arrest. We are ready to help protect your rights while working to ensure you the best possible outcome.
As a former prosecutor, Richard was trained as a trial attorney by the very same agencies that are currently prosecuting you. He has appeared in front of your judge; he has worked alongside most of the prosecutors and police officers, and he knows the ins and outs of each jurisdiction in Metro Atlanta and throughout North Georgia. This experience enhances his knowledge of what Georgia prosecutors look for in arguing cases against DUI drivers, and it gives him an edge in negotiating with prosecuting attorneys. Mr. Lawson has been serving accused DUI drivers and winning their cases for over 20 years. He is the recipient of numerous accolades and awards for his dedication to quality results. He has also written a book on Defending DUI Drug Cases, outlining defenses in DUI Drug and DUI Prescription Drug Cases. He has assembled a team of attorneys, investigators and support staff that are well-equipped to handle any DUI or traffic-related case.
DUI in Georgia is a serious offense that needs serious attention:
30-Day Warning!
Beginning with the moment the Department of Driver Services (DDS) received notice that you were charged with a DUI, the clock began ticking. Â The countdown results in an automatic license suspension for you and the possibility you will not be able to drive yourself to work or school, or provide for your family. Â You can stop or delay this automatic license suspension, but you only have THIRTYÂ DAYS to do so.
We will file a request for a hearing on your case, along with your $150 check (the DDS fee) immediately and stop the State from suspending your driving privileges. Â We will appear at the Administrative License Suspension (ALS) hearing on your behalf, allowing you to fight the suspension without taking time off from work or school or having to arrange for childcare.
We will cross-examine the officer who stopped you, getting him to testify on the record so that we will have a valuable recording of his testimony for future use.  In many cases, we can show that he had no reason to stop you. Sometimes the officer doesn't show up for the hearing at all, which means your license cannot be suspended!  In some cases, if you end up with a suspension, we can also request a restricted permit. A limited license can allow you to drive to and from work or school.
Richard Lawson and his team believe communication is one of the most important traits of a good DUI defense firm. We will keep you apprised of developments in your case and will be there 24 hours a day, seven days a week to answer questions and address concerns.  We view ourselves as a team, working toward resolving this troubling time in your life, and you are the most important member of that team.  We have established an 'on-call' system so that you can reach us whenever it is convenient for you.  We are not like most attorneys who are only available from 9 am to 5 pm, Monday through Friday.  That takes weekends away from the firm and their clients.  We are available to you when you need us.
Our attorneys are trained by the same people who are prosecuting the case against you. Experience is the difference. Your case can be defended. There are defenses as well as alternative sentences.  We investigate each of our cases and never assume a client is guilty.  We approach every case as if you were not guilty even if you have had multiple offenses; we look for defenses and alternative sentences. There is hope.
If you are charged with DUI in Georgia, Contact Georgia DUI Lawyer Richard Lawson 24 hours a day, seven days a week to begin your defense today! Your case will not defend itself. We are here every day because your problems should not have to wait until Monday morning. We have nine office locations in Georgia to serve you.
