West Point GA Police have arrested an Alabama man for Monday's hit-and-run involving a pedestrian on Interstate 85 in Harris County, Georgia.
Caderrickton Barnes, 46, of Lanett, Alabama turned himself in to the police late Monday night and was taken to the Harris County Jail.
Barnes has been charged with first-degree homicide by vehicle, hit-and-run, failure to report an accident that resulted in death, tampering with evidence, and driving on a suspended license. For the felony vehicular homicide alone, he is facing 15 years in prison. With the other charges he faces well over 20 years.
Georgia State Patrol said the victim was struck by Barnes's car between mile markers one and two on I-85 north around 2:30 AM Monday morning.
The male victim has not yet been identified, but was found deceased by authorities responding to a report of a tree blocking part of the interstate. This is another sad situation where a person facing serious consequences made things worse by fleeing the scene of the accident.
