A woman has been arrested after allegedly hitting an Atlanta police car while an officer was still inside of the vehicle.
She has been accused of reckless driving, driving under the influence, and failure to maintain lane. The officer reported that he was parked on the median on Joseph E. Lowery Boulevard while completing paperwork from a recent citation issuance. The woman allegedly drove up onto the curb and hit his car.
As a Georgia DUI Lawyer, I will outline just how accidents and driving under the influence cases coexist and the risks of and potential dangers of having an accident as part of DUI arrest in Georgia.
DUI and Accidents in Georgia
Accidents and DUIs commonly are charged together. If a car accident occurs alongside a DUI arrest, then the accident can actually be used to support the DUI charge. The accident itself may in fact demonstrate that the accused driver was less safe to drive.
Penalties for DUI in Georgia are serious. However, when an accident is involved, the Georgia DUI Penalties are further exacerbated. This is especially true if there are injuries property damage.
There is also the risk of other charges if you get into an accident while accused of DUI. This can also heighten the penalties including a lengthier suspension of an accused driver's Georgia Driver's License.
DUI Accidents in Georgia are very serious and should never be handled without the help of reputable representation.
