Around 3:00 AM on Sunday, a driver hit two pedestrians on Buford Highway. One of these pedestrians died and the other is in critical condition. The driver of this vehicle was not held at fault, but interestingly, Brookhaven police are saying that both pedestrians may have been drunk. Of course in any serous case, the contributory negligence of others is taken into consideration when deciding to charge a driver with a crime.
One of the men was pronounced dead at the scene and the other was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital in critical condition. Neither man's name has been released.
Two hours after the incident, with investigators still on the scene, Ramon Ramos-Abaka allegedly attempted to drive around the police barricades. Ramos-Abaka was arrested and cited for DUI and driving without a license, and taken to the DeKalb County Detention Center.
