A City of Atlanta firefighter was struck by a car and killed while training for a triathlon in New Orleans this week.
Sergeant Frank Guinn, a 9 year veteran of the Atlanta Fire Department was riding his bicycle Friday morning with two people, one his brother-in-law, when he was struck by a car. Guinn, who was 36, died at the scene of the accident.
The three cyclists were training for the Ironman competition that is to be held in New Orleans on Sunday.
Guinn was hit from behind by a Chevrolet Cruze that was traveling eastbound. The driver stayed at the scene and the incident is still under investigation.
Guinn leaves behind a wife and triplet daughters. A friend set up a page for monetary donations for Sgt. Guinn's family, here. If you or anyone your know can afford to donate, please donate generously.
Bicyclists are everywhere. Please watch out for them and their safety. Too often drivers are distracted by texting, talking on the phone, or even driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Not paying attention to your surroundings can cost someone their life. We must share the road with bicyclists and motorcyclists, as they have just as much of a right on the roadways as those in automobiles.
