A driver crashed into a MARTA bus stop, among other things Thursday while attempting to elude police officers in south Fulton.
43 year-old Alan D Richardson had an outstanding warrant for failure to appear on a sexual battery charge when he was stopped by police for a routine traffic stop. When the officer approached his vehicle, Mr. Richardson fled the scene.
Officers attempted to catch up with him but could not and ceased chasing him after they lost sight of his vehicle, but one office continued up Highway 138 at a safe speed and found that the driver had hit an SUV, injuring two people.
After hitting the SUV, Richardson's car ran into a MARTA bus stop right before getting to I-85. The bus stop was destroyed and several pedestrians were injured. A 32 year-old woman remained in Grady Memorial Hospital with serious injuries Friday afternoon. All others involved in the incident suffered minor injuries.
Richardson was able to climb out of his car's sunroof and escape police. There were two passengers left in the car and they are cooperating with police at this time.
Richardson, whose license has been suspended 8 times, has new warrants issued for him for fleeing/attempting to elude police, driving on a suspended license, reckless driving, and other traffic charges. He will need a top-rated Atlanta DUI Attorney.
