An 85 year-old woman has died after a two-car crash in Cobb County Tuesday afternoon. The driver of the other vehicle has been arrested.
Kathryn LaPointe, 85, of Marietta was turning onto Terrell Mill Road from Walmart on Cobb Parkway when her 2006 Ford Taurus was hit on the driver side.
Cynthia Max, 45, of Powder Springs was traveling south on Terrell Mill in a Hyundai Tucson.
As LaPointe turned, her vehicle was struck by the Hyundai. She was taken to WellStar Kennestone Hospital but did not survive her injuries.
Max incurred minor injuries, but did not want to be treated. She was charged with driving under the influence and arrested at the scene of the accident. She was booked into the Cobb County Jail and was released about an hour later on a $1000 bond.
Driving under the influence is a misdemeanor but more than likely Ms. Max will eventually be looking at a felony vehicular homicide charge after the death of Ms. LaPointe. Vehicular homicide can carry a sentence of 3-15 years in prison.
