Fourth of July DUI Reflections

Posted by Richard Lawson | Jul 04, 2017 | 0 Comments

On every major holiday, my office warns people to be careful and to be responsible with their alcohol consumption.

The problem is that no one reads this Georgia DUI Information website before he or she is charged with a DUI.  So, the advice becomes mute.

This year, I want to both warn people to be responsible, while at the same time rejoice in the wonderful system of law and government we have.

In other countries throughout the world, people do not have a system that affords due process of law.

Due process of law means that government cannot take away a person's right to liberty, freedom, or their property without first having a substantive hearing before an impartial judge or jury.

To we Americans, it sounds almost funny to celebrate something we take for granted.  However, it is important to note that in more than half the nations on planet earth, there is no right to a fair trial.  Think about that for a moment.

Our founders created a system, which at the time, no person had ever known or even had imagined.  More than 240 years later, it is still the envy of the world.

So, while we are all enjoying a cookout, time with friends and family, or just a day off of work, we should think about our great country and our fortune to be here.

Happy 4th of July Everyone!
