Amanda Skye Parker has been accused of driving under the influence and causing a deadly chain-reaction wreck on I-85. And according to reports, she has been granted a $65,700 bond this past week.
She was released from jail in Gwinnett County according to jail records. She's accused of hitting an occupied vehicle on the shoulder of I-85 on May 11th. This pushed the disabled vehicle back into traffic, and it was then struck by a truck, and then the vehicle caught fire. This vehicle fire led to the death of Najee Clarke.
She is facing charges of vehicular homicide, DUI, improper lane change, and reckless driving in Georgia. Parker was granted bond on the condition that she has no access to a car, and she also has to go directly to a monitored rehabilitation facility.
As a Georgia DUI Lawyer, I will expand on one of the most important concepts in criminal law - the meaning of an arrest.
What does it mean to be arrested in Georgia?
Bottom line - an arrest does not mean you are guilty. This is regardless of the severity of the offense. From DUI in Georgia to vehicular homicide in Georgia - an arrest is not the same as a conviction.
Never assume you are guilty if you have been arrested. Many people feel overwhelmed when they have been arrested, and rightfully so. When an arrest occurs, a person is thrust into a world of police investigations, courts, license suspensions, jail time, attorneys, judges, etc.
It can be very tempting just to take whatever the prosecutor in your case has to offer, simply to get over your ordeal. However, this is one of the worst mistakes a person can make.
Hiring a Georgia DUI Attorney is a complicated matter, and you need to act quickly in most circumstances as the clock began ticking as soon as you were arrested.
