Mandatory License Suspension in Georgia
There are certain offenses, as I alluded to above, that if convicted can result in the mandatory suspension of your driver's license in Georgia. The traffic offenses are as follows:
- Georgia Vehicular Homicide (O.C.G.A. §40-6-393)
- Georgia Hit and Run (O.C.G.A. §40-6-270)
- Georgia Leaving the Scene of an Accident (O.C.G.A. §40-6-270)
- Georgia Racing on Highways and Streets (O.C.G.A. §40-6-186)
- Fleeing or Attempting to Elude an Officer while using a motor vehicle (O.C.G.A. §40-6-395)
These offenses are listed out in the Georgia Code under §40-5-54 as those that result in the mandatory suspension of a driver's license if convicted.Â
If convicted, then at the time of sentencing, every Georgia judge should give notice to the convicted person of the suspension of their license and the length of time of suspension. The Court will then forward the notice of the license suspension to the Department of Driver's Services within ten days of the conviction.Â
