MTV reality star, Britni Thornton, was arrested for driving under the influence on April 14th, 2018. Thornton began a reality tv star in 2015 when she appeared on the dating competition show “Are You the One.” She then starred in “The Challenge” on two different occasions.
Britni Thornton was arrested in Columbia County, Georgia for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. The other charge was failure to maintain lane.
Driving Under the Influence of Drugs or Alcohol in Georgia
The penalty for a first-time conviction for driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol is severe in Georgia. Not only will your criminal history show that you were arrested on DUI charges, but you will also face these Georgia DUI Penalties:
- Up to one year in jail
- Up to $1,000 in fines
- 40 hours of community service
- One year of probation
- Up to one year of license suspension
30-Day Letter in Georgia
Furthermore, you only have 30 days from the date of the arrest to file a 30-day letter. This 30-day letter challenges the suspension of your license. Without sending the letter, your license will be automatically suspended. This request must be in writing. Your best option is to have a Georgia DUI Attorney draft the letter.
In the alternative, if she is a Georgia resident, she may install an ignition interlock device on her automobile instead of filings for a Georgia ALS Hearing.
The sad part with celebrity arrests is that they are publicized nationwide. Everyone knows that they have been arrested, but often people do not notice the final disposition. Some DUI charges get dropped due to a faulty blood test or insufficient evidence. Others may be reduced to reckless driving. However, the public rarely hears about that. I have argued in the past that celebrities are not treated better than ordinary people. In fact, the publicity associated with being a public figure causes the court and the prosecutor to go harder on such people to avoid public consternation.
