One person was killed and one seriously injured in a multi-car accident in Cobb County Monday afternoon around 3:30 PM.
Danielle Garcia of Douglasville was driving in the southbound lane of CH James Parkway in a 1998 Mazda B4000 truck. Bobby Banks, 61, from Powder Springs was traveling in front of Garcia in a Toyota Tundra truck. Garcia began to change lanes to pass Banks and the left front of the Mazda struck the right rear of the Toyota and Banks lost control and went through the center turn lane and hit a northbound 2005 Infiniti G35 head-on.
The Infiniti was hit by the Toyota it was struck by a 2012 Freightliner tractor-trailer that was also traveling northbound on CH James Parkway. Upon being hit by the tractor-trailer, the Infiniti caught fire.
The driver of the Infiniti died at the scene of the accident. Garcia and the driver of the tractor-trailer, 28 year-old Alhassane Dansoko of Decatur did not need medical treatment. Banks however, was taken to Atlanta Medical Center with serious although non-life-threatening injuries.
Police are expecting to file charges at the end of their investigation. Some possible charges could be vehicular homicide, reckless driving, improper lane change or failure to maintain lane to name a few. Stay tuned for updates.
