Hall County Courthouse

Gainesville, Ga. – The arrests of two men in Hall County have made local headlines after officer pulled a vehicle over and discovered over a kilo of methamphetamine and heroin in the vehicle.

What started out as a simple traffic stop led to an in-depth investigation of both the driver and the passenger in the vehicle. This is what led to an inventory search of the car and the subsequent discovery of felony narcotics.

As a Georgia DUI Lawyer, I specialize in DUI in Georgia. However, there is usually a process that involves a similar set up as to the story above. Typically, a driver is pulled over for a minor traffic violation, and an investigation then begins.

In today's post, I will outline the average DUI investigation.

DUI Investigations in Georgia

Most drivers are unaware that the detaining officer is actually looking for clues or hints that there are more serious violations or crimes being committed. An officer who notices a strong odor of alcohol or any other signs of impairment, the investigation will become more serious. This will lead to the officer asking for the driver a series of questions as well as asking for the driver's participation in standardized field sobriety tests. The majority of the time, if the investigation gets to this point, the driver will ultimately be arrested for DUI or DUI Less Safe in Georgia.
