There are a few different alternative punishments for being arrested for DUI in Georgia. These alternatives should only be considered after consultation with a Georgia DUI Lawyer and should only be explored with the help of expert opinion.
In today's post, I will outline the alternative punishment of choosing DUI Court in Georgia over other penalties.
DUI Court in Georgia
Georgia DUI Penalties are extensive to say the least. Georgia DUI Court is an alternative to some of the normal penalties.
Judges may ask you to consider DUI Court as an option if they believe that your DUI is the result of a substance abuse problem.
DUI Court is best defined as a treatment program. It has some serious requirements and if you choose it as an option, you will be intensely supervised. I refer to it as a “zero tolerance program.”
DUI Court consists of fees, weekly treatments, and regular court appearances. If you violate the requirements of your DUI Court treatment, then there will be punishments and sanctions. The entire program usually lasts around a year.
Practice Note
As a Georgia DUI Attorney, I will reemphasize that if you have been suggested to choose DUI Court, please consult with a DUI Lawyer before choosing this as an option. Of course there are pros and cons, but most of the time with DUI Court, people are confused with what the end result is.
Even if you complete DUI Court successfully, it does not mean that your charges will automatically be reduced or dismissed or erased from your criminal history.
DUI Court is an option that is 100% defendant on the circumstances and details of your case. If you or a loved one has been arrested in Georgia for DUI, contact our offices today.
