Teen Speaks for First Time Since Struck by Suspected DUI Driver

Emily Bowman, the teenager that was struck by a drunk driver while walking on a street in Athens at around 3am, has spoken for the first time since being injured back in February 2013.

Bowman had gotten rehabilitation at Shepherd Center but was not making enough progress so last summer she went to her parent's home to continue to recuperate.  She has been making progress with her recovery and can hold her head up for longer periods of time, is more responsive than before, and after a recent visit to Shepherd Center, her family discovered she could return and begin rehabilitation at Shepherd Pathways, Shepherd Center's outpatient facility for therapy for brain injury located in Decatur, Georgia.

William Heaton, Jr., 22, was arrested and charged with DUI, felony hit-and-run, serious injury by vehicle, reckless driving, and having an open container of alcohol.  He plead not guilty and is awaiting trial.
